←All birds
A compact, big-headed bird with a blue-gray back, black cap, and bright white face and underparts, the White-breasted Nuthatch is a fixture of North American woodlands. It creeps over trunks and branches probing bark for insects, and its nasal 'yank-yank' call is a woodland staple. At feeders it favors sunflower seeds and suet.
Fun Fact
It walks headfirst down tree trunks, a gravity-defying trick that lets it spot insects other birds miss.
