Common Blackbird

Turdus merula

A true thrush and a staple of European gardens, the male Common Blackbird is glossy black with a bright orange-yellow bill and eye-ring, while the female is warm brown. It hops across lawns tugging earthworms and tossing leaf litter for insects. Its rich, mellow, fluting song at dawn and dusk is among the most beloved sounds of the European spring.
