A striking songbird of eastern woodlands, the breeding male is boldly patterned in black and white with a brilliant rose-red triangle splashed across his chest. Its heavy, pale bill crushes seeds with ease, and it also takes insects and fruit. It winters in the tropics of Central and South America.
