Bohemian Waxwing

Bombycilla garrulus

Sleek and elegant with a peachy-brown body, black mask, and waxy red tips on its secondary feathers, the Bohemian Waxwing breeds in northern boreal forests across North America and Eurasia. It descends on berry-laden trees in large, nomadic winter flocks. Its high-pitched trilling calls announce the flock's arrival like tiny silver bells.

Fun Fact

Bohemian Waxwings sometimes eat so many fermented berries that they become visibly intoxicated, stumbling around and having trouble flying straight.
