Eastern Bluebird

Sialia sialis

The male Eastern Bluebird glows with vivid royal blue upperparts and a warm rusty-orange breast, making it a beloved sight in open farmland and meadows. Found across eastern North America, its population rebounded dramatically thanks to nest box programs after competition with invasive House Sparrows reduced natural nesting sites. Its soft warbling song is as gentle as its appearance.

Fun Fact

Eastern Bluebirds nearly went extinct in the 1960s but were saved by nest box programs.
