Toco Toucan
Ramphastos toco
The Toco Toucan's enormous orange-yellow bill — up to 20 centimeters long — makes it one of the most iconic tropical birds. Its black body contrasts with a white throat and a ring of blue skin around the eye. Found across South American savannas and forest edges, it uses its oversized bill to regulate body temperature and pluck distant fruit.
Fun Fact
The toucan's enormous bill is actually very light — it's made of a honeycomb of keratin.
