Andean Cock-of-the-rock
Rupicola peruvianus
A blazing orange head crest shaped like a half-moon makes the male Andean Cock-of-the-rock one of South America's most spectacular birds. Found in cloud forests from Venezuela to Bolivia, males gather at communal leks where they dance, hop, and display to impress watching females.
Fun Fact
Males gather in groups called leks to perform competitive dances, bobbing and wing-snapping for females.
