A magnificent bird of Southeast Asian rainforests, the Rhinoceros Hornbill is glossy black with a white tail and a huge, upturned orange-and-red casque atop its bill. It feeds mostly on figs and other fruit high in the canopy, playing a key role in dispersing seeds. Its heavy wingbeats can be heard from a distance.
Fun Fact
The nesting female seals herself inside a tree hole with mud, and the male passes her food through a narrow slit for months.
