Kori Bustard

Ardeotis kori

A stately giant of the African savanna, the Kori Bustard is among the heaviest birds still capable of flight. It strides slowly through dry grassland on sturdy legs, head held high, snapping up insects, reptiles, seeds, and small animals. Though it can fly, it does so reluctantly, preferring to walk.

Fun Fact

Bee-eaters and oxpeckers often ride on the Kori Bustard's back, snatching insects it flushes as it walks.
