Indian Peafowl
Pavo cristatus
The male Indian Peafowl — the peacock — is famous for its extraordinary iridescent blue-green plumage and enormous fan-shaped train covered in shimmering eyespots. Native to the Indian subcontinent, it inhabits forests, farmland, and temple grounds. The female peahen is considerably more subdued in brown and green tones, providing camouflage while nesting.
Fun Fact
A peacock's tail feathers make up 60% of its total body length.
