Golden Pheasant
Chrysolophus pictus
The male Golden Pheasant is breathtakingly colorful, with a golden crest, bright red body, and an orange-and-black striped cape around its neck. Native to the mountainous forests of central China, it has been introduced to parks and estates in Europe. Despite its vivid plumage, it is surprisingly secretive and difficult to observe in the wild.
Golden Pheasants are so secretive in the wild that their population is difficult to estimate.
