Emu
Dromaius novaehollandiae
Standing up to six feet tall, the Emu is Australia's largest bird and the second-tallest in the world. Shaggy brown plumage, a blue neck, and powerful legs built for endurance make it unmistakable across open plains and woodlands. Males are devoted fathers, incubating eggs for eight weeks without eating and guarding chicks for up to 18 months.
Fun Fact
Emus are the second-tallest living bird and Australia lost the Great Emu War of 1932 against them.
