European Robin

Erithacus rubecula

Small and plump with a bright orange-red breast and large dark eyes, the European Robin is a beloved garden bird across Europe and western Asia. Despite its cheerful appearance, it is fiercely territorial and will sing aggressively even in winter darkness. Unlike the unrelated American Robin, it is a member of the Old World flycatcher family.
