Superb Fairywren

Malurus cyaneus

Tiny and hyperactive, the breeding male Superb Fairywren is a stunning electric blue and black, while non-breeding males and females are plain brown. Found across southeastern Australia in scrubby habitats, they live in cooperative groups where helpers assist the breeding pair. Males pluck yellow flower petals and present them to females as part of their courtship ritual.

Fun Fact

Male Superb Fairywrens bring flower petals to females as gifts during courtship.
