Wilson's Bird-of-paradise
Cicinnurus respublica
Few birds rival the psychedelic palette of Wilson's Bird-of-paradise — a turquoise bare crown, scarlet back, and curled violet tail wires. Endemic to just two small islands off West Papua, the male meticulously clears a forest-floor stage for his elaborate courtship dance. It remained unphotographed in the wild until 1996.
Fun Fact
The male has a bald blue head and curled violet tail wires, and clears a dance floor on the forest floor.
