Cockatiel

Nymphicus hollandicus

A slender, crested member of the cockatoo family, the Cockatiel sports gray plumage with a yellow face and distinctive orange cheek patches. Native to Australia's arid interior, wild flocks are nomadic, following food and water sources across the outback. Second only to the Budgerigar in popularity as a pet bird, they are talented whistlers and mimics.

Fun Fact

Cockatiels are the smallest members of the cockatoo family and can learn to whistle entire songs.
