Palm Cockatoo
Probosciger aterrimus
One of the largest cockatoos in the world, the Palm Cockatoo sports a dramatic smoky-grey plumage and a massive black bill capable of cracking the toughest nuts. Found in rainforests of New Guinea and northern Australia, it famously drums on hollow branches with sticks — one of the few birds known to use tools rhythmically.
Fun Fact
Palm Cockatoos use sticks to drum on hollow trees — the only bird known to use tools to make music.
