Yellow-headed Caracara
Daptrius chimachima
A versatile scavenger and opportunist, the Yellow-headed Caracara sports a creamy-yellow head and underparts offset by dark brown wings. Widespread from Mexico to Argentina, it frequents open country, roadsides, and pastures. It often perches on the backs of cattle to pick off ticks and is equally comfortable eating carrion or live prey.
