Common Whitethroat
Curruca communis
A lively warbler with a grey head, rusty-brown wings, and a clean white throat that gives it its name, the Common Whitethroat breeds across Europe and western Asia before wintering in sub-Saharan Africa. Males perform a jaunty song-flight, rising from hedgerows and diving back down. It favors scrubby, overgrown habitats and bramble patches.
Fun Fact
The Whitethroat performs a spectacular dancing song flight, rising vertically while singing.
