Guira Cuckoo
Guira guira
With its shaggy orange crest, streaky brown-and-white plumage, and long tail, the Guira Cuckoo looks perpetually windswept. Found across open habitats in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, it lives in boisterous social groups. Unlike many cuckoos, it builds its own communal nest where multiple females lay eggs — though nest-mates often toss each other's eggs out.
Fun Fact
Guira Cuckoos are communal nesters — multiple females lay eggs in the same nest.
