Eurasian Spoonbill
Platalea leucorodia
The Eurasian Spoonbill is a tall, all-white wading bird with a remarkable flattened, spatula-shaped bill that it sweeps through shallow water to sift out small fish, crustaceans, and insects. It breeds in scattered colonies from Europe to East Asia. During breeding season, adults develop a yellowish breast patch and an elegant nuchal crest.
Fun Fact
Eurasian Spoonbills use their uniquely shaped bills to filter small creatures from muddy water.
