Snowy Owl
Bubo scandiacus
Striking and unmistakable, the Snowy Owl is a large white owl with variable dark barring, bright yellow eyes, and heavily feathered feet. It breeds on Arctic tundra and periodically irrupts southward in winter, thrilling birdwatchers across southern Canada and the northern United States. Unlike most owls, it hunts primarily during daylight hours.

Male Snowy Owls get whiter as they age, while females keep their dark barring.
