Barn Owl
Tyto alba
With its ghostly white heart-shaped face, golden-buff upperparts, and silent flight, the Barn Owl is one of the most distinctive raptors on Earth. Found on every continent except Antarctica, it hunts almost exclusively at night. Its asymmetrical ears allow it to pinpoint prey by sound alone in total darkness.
Fun Fact
A Barn Owl can locate prey in complete darkness using sound alone.
