Superb Lyrebird

Menura novaehollandiae

The Superb Lyrebird of southeastern Australia is perhaps the world's most accomplished vocal mimic, faithfully reproducing the calls of other birds, animals, and even chainsaws and camera shutters. The male's spectacular tail feathers, when raised in display, form the shape of a lyre. It inhabits dense, moist forest where it scratches through leaf litter for invertebrates.

Fun Fact

Lyrebirds can perfectly mimic chainsaws, camera shutters, car alarms, and other bird calls.
