Common Yellowthroat

Geothlypis trichas

A small, skulking warbler of marshes and brushy fields, the male Common Yellowthroat wears a bright yellow throat and a bold black 'bandit mask' bordered above with white. It creeps low through dense vegetation gleaning insects, staying mostly out of sight. It is one of the most widespread warblers in North America.

Fun Fact

The male's rolling 'witchety-witchety-witchety' song makes this marsh skulker far easier to hear than to see.
