Tufted Puffin
Fratercula cirrhata
Dark-bodied with a white face, massive orange bill, and long straw-colored plume tufts sweeping back from behind each eye, the Tufted Puffin is a dramatic seabird of the North Pacific. It breeds on rocky islands from California to Alaska and across to Japan. Powerful swimmers, they use their wings to fly underwater in pursuit of small fish.
Fun Fact
Tufted Puffins use their feet to steer underwater, where they 'fly' with their wings.
