Northern Gannet
Morus bassanus
The Northern Gannet is a powerful seabird with a white body, black wingtips, and a golden wash on its head. Found across the North Atlantic, it breeds in dense, noisy colonies on steep coastal cliffs. It hunts by plunge-diving from heights of 30 meters, folding its wings to pierce the water like an arrow.
Fun Fact
Gannets dive from 100 feet high and have air sacs in their face and chest that act like bubble wrap.
