Grey Crowned Crane

Grey Crowned Crane

Balearica regulorum

Crowned with a spray of stiff golden feathers atop its head, the Grey Crowned Crane is a stunning resident of eastern and southern African wetlands and grasslands. Its grey body, white wing patches, and bright red throat pouch create a regal appearance. It is the national bird of Uganda and one of only two crane species that can perch in trees.

Fun Fact

Grey Crowned Cranes are the only cranes that can perch in trees, thanks to a long hind toe.
